HOW DEPARTMENT-AGENCY-COMMISSION INFORMATION IS ORGANIZED ON THIS SITE

This page is a guide to how the resource pages on this site are organized and how they can be used.  The government of the United States is an enormously complex and very large operation - but except for the military and the judiciary sections, is organized essentially the same way in each of the Cabinet Departments, Agencies, and the variety of other structures.  Most are headed by direct Presidential Appointments through the White House.  It only makes common sense that we do not develop information on any of the Intelligence Services which is not directly published by the government itself in an official way, nor do we publish information which we have any reason to think is classified. Neither do we publish information about appointees which cannot be verified as correct  - regardless of source.  If we receive or find information which suggests a crime has been committed, we will immediately provide it to appropriate authorities.

Resource Page Contents

Page Names:  The Resource pages are named with descriptive words which can be easily sourced through browser searches.  The Page Name is included on the home page on the left side, and in the collection of page site at the bottom of most pages.

Description:  A brief description of each page is at the front of each site.  That description is heavily subject oriented such as Indian Affairs or Fish and Game or National Parks, etc.  These are not necessarily official government names, but are search oriented with key words to make finding the pages easy for everybody.

Appointive Positions:  We list positions in the subject area more or less in order of authority and compensation, if any, with Secretaries and Chairman higher on the list than other appointees.  This is not to suggest a class system of some sort, but it has a certain logic to it.  (Don't be surprised if appointees instantly create a class system or rank system - politicians generally have that personality defect.)  If we have the name of a present appointee or actually nominee, we try to post that information.  If the position is vacant, we name the position and mark it Vacant.  If we have information about a nominee, or the status of the nomination in the selection process, we will note that.

Quality of Information:  We tag most of the information we provide with the last date we looked at it.  Information and sites sometimes change daily, or every few hours - sometimes it is very stable.  While we check information on a regular basis, our users need to very information on specific sites or on specific themselves.  We cannot vouch for information without re-checking it regularly - you should do the same if it is important to you.  If you need our help, contact us at Director@Presidential-Appointments.org.

Site Information:  These internet site references are largely government sites, but not necessarily.  Check the source of the site when you use the information because we often include private sites that may have useful information.  They are generally alphabetical, but not necessarily.  They are specific to the subject on a particular resource page, but of course, are usually loaded with information.  We are generally cautious with the information.  These, after all, are government pages, and are political.  What isn't included on these pages is often more important than what is included.  Many are incomplete.  Many are out-of-date so pay attention to the currency of the information.  If it is really important to you - try to get verification of any information which seems weak.  There are official reports of government agencies that suggest caution on using this information.  Needless to say - the internet material is generally enormously useful - but check if you need to.

References Materials:  If we come across books, articles, or other sources for a particular subject page, we include that material at this point.

Subscription Material

E-Mail Updates:  If you wish to receive periodic e-mails on resource information from particular pages, contact us at Director@Presidential-Appointments.org.  These are not available on all resource pages, but are noted on those where this service is available.  Most are low volume updates on appointments in particular areas.  There is no charge for most of these e-mail services.

Press Information:  Press releases are issued on some appointments to media in areas where the appointment is of interest.  You can be included for these releases on request to Director@Presidential-Appointments.org.
